Welcome to the Fort Washington Swim Team (FWST) website. We are a private community-based organization and our mission is to build children's aquatic skills, teamwork, principles of good sportsmanship and love of the sport. We've been a proud member of the Prince-Mont Swim League since 1972. The Sharks have established a tradition of doing their best. Our Sharks are a fun loving bunch and have many social events beyond competing in swim meets, check out our calendar page. Additionally, our Guppy program teaches the youngest of children the skills needed to become a racing member of the team.

Coach’s Shout Out
Once again, my biggest SHOUT-OUT has to go to our magnificent guards who had nothing but our safety in their minds last night. Although everyone wanted to stay and help clean-up, they urged everyone to return to the safety of our homes. Their professional manner and mature response assures me that we have the best guards around!! THANK YOU!!
After all of last night's excitement, I don't want anyone to forget that we had quite an exciting morning also!! The Sharks were amazing, as always. Our goal was to stay close to Russet (and secretly sneak up on them,) but not let Smallwood sneak up on us. Remember, Smallwood was our closest meet of the year and was getting stronger throughout the season. We came in third place behind RST and RCS, beating all the other teams that we won during the season. Conditions were harsh for everyone this week, so for anyone to swim their fastest time of the season was miraculous!! WAY TO GO, SHARKS!!
David King kicked off the individual events with his fastest time which earned him a first place in butterfly completing a perfect winning season in fly. Yeah, David!! Teammate Kevin Masciola moved up from his 4th place seeding to a 3rd place finish in fly. Rachel Neal swam her fastest fly of the season. Basem Magd swam his best fly and improved his 5th place seeding to a fourth place finish! That's huge!! Akeyla Holley completed her first perfect record of the season in her butterfly.
The Sharks really showed their stuff during the freestyle events. Wade Weddington steam rolled his competition and moved up from his 4th place seeding to a 2nd place finish by swimming his fastest time of the season. Team mate Compton French also swam his fastest free of the year. Alexandra Tompkins always swims to her competition and lowered her best time. Kevin Masciola took .5 off of his freestyle. Madison Tompkins took a 1.5 sec off. D'Ante Jeffries took over a second off. Kerrington Banks took nearly a second off. Gabby Stevenson also took nearly a second off her time just returning from Europe this week and having to get back on "our" time. Jelani Ginyard took over 3 seconds from her best time. Seniors Arthur Walton and Joey Patrizio both swam their best times with Joey taking another 2 seconds off his best. Gaby Griffin completed her undefeated season in the freestyle. Akeyla Holley completed her second perfect season in the freestyle.
Breastroke seems to be the Sharks favorite events. Eamon Griffin came into the points by improving from an 8th place seeding to a 6th place finish. Elizabeth King swam her best time of the season by over a second. Both Eamon and Elizabeth are only 6. It is quite a feat to have a legal breastroke at the age, not to mention qualifying for Divisionals. Nate Thomas swam his fastest breastroke by over a second. Alison Griffin took nearly a second off of her time. Darious Bowman dropped over 1.5 sec from his time. Morenike Akintobe took 8 seconds off her breastroke!! That 8, not .8! Jared Saunders swam his fastest breastroke by nearly a second. And Kiara Leath completed another perfect season going undefeated in the breastroke!!
Going into the backstroke, I was a little worried that we would fall in the standings, but I was proven wrong. The Sharks held tight onto third place. Madison Tompkins swam her fastest backstroke to improve her 6th place seeding to a 5th place finish. Kerrington Banks once again swam his fastest time. Tamara Masciola swam her fastest by a half of a sec. Renee Banks practiced hard all week on her backstroke and improved her time by nearly 7 seconds! Kirk Williams took over a second off his backstroke. Eight and unders Wade Weddington and Assata Shakur finished up the backstroke events swimming their fastest times of the season.
I felt confident going into the IM events with the entrants that we had and they didn't let us down!! Darious Bowman dropped nearly 2 seconds and always finished hard with his freestyle! Lauren Thomas took over 7 seconds from her IM time. Arthur Walton took over 1.5 seconds off his IM. And again, Akeyla Holley showed again what a beautiful swimmer that she is by completing her third perfect season in the IM. Three undefeated events. WOW!!
The relays were some of the most exciting of the year!! The boys' medley relay kicked off the meet with a 2nd place and got us motivated. The eight and unders mixed relay really did it!! They were seeded to take 5th place and finished 3rd!! Then the boys graduated relay stole second place when they were seeded 3rd. One of the most exciting relays was the girls' medley relay. They came down hard on RCS pulling to within .1 of a second after being behind by probably 4-5 seconds. It was so close! Those girls have kept us on our feet all season. Way to do it, girls!
I know everyone swam the best that they could yesterday and nobody held back. We all had to combat the heat this week and it was tough on everyone. I'm so proud of the Divisional team that represented us. You did a fantastic job!! We were awarded the Saum-Hilton trophy for being the smallest team that improved the most over the season. Yeah, Sharks!!!
Thanks to all the parents that worked the meet in that heat and all the fans that came out to support us. We noticed!!!
Stay tuned for All-Star seedings. Keep checking the Princemont website. If you do make it to All-Stars and aren't able to attend. Please let me know asap so I can scratch you. Anyone who makes it to All-Stars, practice will be at 9:30.
